Marcelo Reveals Anxiety Attack Before 2018 CL Final

Marcelo has revealed that he suffered from an anxiety attack before playing the 2018 Champions League final against Liverpool.

The Brazilian insisted that, despite winning four previous Champions League trophies, the pressure on him and Real Madrid was massive that night.

"I couldn't breathe. I was trying not to panic," Marcelo told the Players' Tribune.

"This was in the dressing room right before the Champions League final against Liverpool in 2018.

"It felt like I had something stuck in my chest. This huge pressure. Do you know that feeling? I am not talking about nerves. Nerves are normal in football. This was something different.

"I am telling you, brother, it felt like I was suffocating.

"Everything had started the night before the final. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep.

"I was thinking only of the match. It was funny, actually, because my wife, Clarice , gets so mad at me for biting my nails, and she finally got me to stop a few years ago.

"But I woke up the morning of the final, and all my nails were gone.

"A little bit of nerves is normal in football. I don't care who you are, if you're not feeling anxious before playing in a final, you're not a real person.

"When I finally stepped onto the grass, I was still having trouble breathing, and I thought, 'if I have to die out here tonight, f*** it. I'll die."

Lionel Messi bent in a trademark breathtaking free kick in the first half of Barcelona’s La Liga game with Real Valladolid and set a personal milestone in the process. Messi has now scored 50 goals direct from free kicks in his career. He went on to score another, from open play, in the second half before another assist, this time to Luis Suarez, saw Barca get five. The 32-year-old's goals were his 100th and 101st for head coach Ernesto Valverde. Devastated Son in Tears After Andre Gomes Horror Injury

Son Heung-min was “devastated” following his tackle that left Everton’s Andre Gomes with a horrific leg injury during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Sunday, according to Dele Alli. The incident occurred in the 77th minute at Goodison Park with the visitors leading 1-0, and resulted in a red card for the South Korean as horrified players were visibly shaken by the extent of Gomes’ injury. Son went in with a lunging tackle on the midfielder as he sought to win back the ball, but failed to make contact with the ball as his opponent went down in pain. Alli Sky Sports: “I didn’t want to look too much at what happened [to Gomes]. All I can do is send him my best wishes and wish him a quick recovery. “Son is devastated, he’s in tears but it’s not his fault. He’s one of the nicest people you would want to meet and he’s not like that. "He can’t even lift his head up he’s crying that much in the dressing room.”
